Wondering why Xcel rates are going up... again?!
Could it be all the executive pay and bonuses along with the expensive advertising campaigns including billboards and banner ads everywhere (and for what purpose, they have no competition!?). How many millions of dollars have been spent by Xcel over the years on billboards and advertising agencies?
Wondering why Denver Water bills are going up... again? Same problem – overpaid executives, and wasteful spending on advertising campaigns. And they go all out with their fancy billboards – using expensive advertising agencies to advertise to us, their captive clients – for what purpose? They are the only water company, there is no competition. Make it make sense.

Utility companies like Xcel Energy and Denver Water face significant public scrutiny for advertising to "captive audiences" who have no choice in providers. This is a complete waste of money, that, if eliminated, could help keep the costs down so we can better afford energy and water for our homes. Any marketing is a waste for utility monopolies such as Xcel and Denver Water, and they should be ashamed for spending hundreds of thousands of our customer dollars on advertising to a captive audience with no choice in utilities, while raising the rates on us again and again. If they want to communicate with us, they can simply add conservation tips and other messaging to us on our bills or in their online portals. No expensive billboards or advertising agencies needed. Period.
